No more suicidal thoughts, says former Mr South Africa
(trigger warning, this video could distress you with its references to suicide)
PEOPLE AND PLACES WITH A PURPOSE
Thislife Online | Formerly homeless guy gives back!
'I've never been suicidal in my life but there was a day when I just wanted to die,' says former University of Cape Town student Walter Nyamugama, who was forced to move to the Muizenberg mountain when lockdown made it impossible for him to pay rent.
Despite his precarious situation he volunteered at a number of projects, including the same shelter that helped him. 'I love serving,' he says. 'I want people to see they have a future.' Could his heartwarming story maybe motivate you in a fresh way?
If you'd like to encourage or help Walter in any way, please do mail him on walternyamugama@yahoo.com, or via Thislife's editor Katy on editor@thislifeonline.co.za

Thislife Online | From mess to belonging
'It was just a mess!' So says Gill McCulloch of her life before she and her daughter set up a haven for abused and neglected horses that's exploded purpose into their lives. Not only are they bringing comfort to the horses, they're also helping vulnerable women and children, former addicts and people who've simply lost their mojo track down joy again.
'I realised I'm worth recovery,' says former drug addict Gaëlle who was helped by the haven. 'It gives you a sense of belonging in this world,' says young volunteer Christopher. Be inspired by their stories right here!
